The National Society of Leadership & Success
My junior year of college, my friend Samantha asked me to be the Events Coordinator for our Honors Society. I jumped at the opportunity! I helped plan “Success Networking Teams”, small group goal setting groups, and I got to lead one a couple of days a week. We helped each other make SMART goals for tasks we were having trouble completing. This was so rewarding, and so necessary for my workload.
I also helped schedule “Speaker Broadcasts” which were broadcasts of interviews with industry leaders specifically recorded for our Honors Society, and their purpose was to help us remain motivated, even when things got difficult. We scheduled multiple per month, as attendance to a certain number per month was necessary to gain inducted status with the honors society.
I helped plan team building events like movie nights, fundraisers around the city, and executive committee meetings. I also planned our induction ceremonies and recruited speakers for various events. When Samantha graduated, she passed the baton of President down to me. My senior year I was doing everything I had done as the Events Coordinator, and I was meeting with our National Headquarters to ensure we were meeting (exceeding) budget goals and hitting our KPI’s.
I loved my time with the National Society of Leadership and Success! I am lucky that this organization values supporting students throughout AND after college. I still have access to all of the tools I was granted in college. I gained a lot of leadership experience through this opportunity, and learned how to navigate working with a broad spectrum of personalities, as this honors society was not specific to any one area of study.
